What If You Never Had to Explain the Value of Your Coaching Again?
How do I summarise and articulate the outcomes that people get from working with me?
That’s the question I got from one of our subscribers. Here’s what I wrote in response:
—
Your website is fantastic.
Your social media is evocative.
Your language is clear.
Sometimes I ask clients a Nancy Kline Incisive Question. The idea of the Incisive Question is that it removes a limiting belief for people and invites them into action.
What if it's a limiting belief that articulating the outcomes better will make everything work?
To test it, try this question: if you knew you could NEVER articulate well the outcomes from coaching with you, what would you do?
Slow down and answer that question.
Your answer might give you what you need.
If it doesn't, here are two answers that come up for me.
1) Don't tell them, SHOW them.
If I knew I could NEVER articulate well the outcomes from coaching with me, I'd coach people so that they could FEEL what the outcomes are FOR THEM.
In fact, this is already what I do. Wherever possible I coach someone who is interested in coaching.
No talking, no persuading, just an experiment between the two of us to see if it's powerful to do coaching together.
As little explaining and as much experiencing as possible.
In fact, from memory, nowhere on my website does it say ANYTHING about the outcomes from coaching with me. (Except in the testimonials... on which point...)
2) Don't tell them, ASK them.
If I knew *I* could never articulate well the outcomes from coaching with me, maybe someone else could.
You already have amazing testimonials - no cleverly worded 'what you get from coaching' will be a substitute for reading what someone real has to say. Add some pictures and it brings it to life even more.
If YOU want more confidence in talking about those outcomes, an amazing thing to do would be to go back through all the people you have coached so far, whether for a single session or over months. Look for the 10 people who you LOVED to coach the most.
Reach out to all 10, and tell them you're doing some work to try to help people who are thinking about coaching decide if it's for them. Ask them for the THREE most important OUTCOMES from their coaching with you. Tell them the fewer words the better.
See what comes.
You can just post those 30 things on your site as a long list.
You can summarise them yourself.
You could ask ChatGPT to pull out the patterns.
Again, no persuading, no explaining.
Let others do the talking.
